STEAMPUNK BOOKENDS

I've had these plain mdf bookends for a long while now, and wanted to make them a bit more interesting. Seeing as I'm hugely into steampunk, I decided to use some mdf cogs, rather large ones to attach to the bookends.

Firstly, I painted everything in a wash of DecoArt Prussian blue hue paint, dried it, then added a layer of Quinacridone gold over the top, to give an aged and rusty look.

I then added the cogs to the bookends, not easy, but so worth it.

SHABBY CHIC SIGN

Here we have a lovely shabby chic 'home' sign. I bought this from The Works, it was only £2! I wanted to make it look vintage/shabby chic, so I covered it in Sara's signature collection "Shabby Chic" papers, then painted on some DecoArt crackle paste.

Once dried, I added some paper flowers, that I had highlighted with a gold pen, and a lovely mdf butterfly that I distressed and embellished with wire and some little gems.

ALTERED BOOK

I absolutely loved making this. I used a paper mache storage book from IndigoBlu and covered it in white tissue paper and mod podge. Once dry, I used antique linen, black soot, and antiqued bronze distress paints, and lots of water, to cover both inside and out.

When that had dried, I stencilled onto the front, back, and inside, using Tim Holtz stencils. I used loads of ideaology goodies to decorate, and lots of metal cogs and gears, and a greyboard Tando clock for the front

ALTERED MDF LETTERS

I've had these mdf letters for a long while now, and finally decided to do something with them.
I painted them with a wash of DecoArt Prussian Blue Hue paint, then after it had dried painted with a layer of Quinacridone gold. I adore this paint! This gave it a rusty effect look. I then stamped onto each letter with Archival watering can grey ink, using a couple of different stamps. It doesn't show up hugely, but gives another texture to the finished letters.

I then used various embellishments on each letter, such as metal frames, metal charms, handmade embellishments, a real pocket watch part, and ideaology bits n bobs.

This was a really fun project.

ALTERED MDF STORAGE BOX

I haven't blogged in a while, as I've been making lots of mixed media goodies.

This one is an MDF storage box from Imagination Crafts. I covered it in Tim Holtz papers from his new Memoranda' paper pack. These papers are stunning, and it was really hard to cut them up!
I them used a gold Pebeo 4artist marker pen to colour the edges of the box.

The inside was painted with green Pebeo matt paint.

I made a few handmade embellishments from cut out butterflies from Tim Holtz ideaology stickers, and added various mechanical parts for the bodies. I used MDF feathers as an accent near the handles, and some gorgeous engraved roses, banners, and gorgeous words from Daisy Jewels and Crafts, which I coloured with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers.

I used other ideaology bits & bobs to decorate, including some remnant rubs, paper dolls, quote chips etc...

It now houses all my yummy mdf/greyboard/mountboard goodies.
